Luxembourg Tech School (LTS) students developed safe and secure financial applications when they participated in a competitive hackathon event at the Luxembourg House of Cybersecurity

With an increasing number of people relying on financial technology (fintech) for everyday transactions, the need for secure applications is more important than ever in the digital age.

21 students from LTS’ Level Up, Level One, and Alumni programmes took part in the event. They had one day to hack and come up with innovative ideas. The following day, they received guidance from experienced mentors from the finance, technology, and cybersecurity industries to finalise their ideas.

On the final day, the students presented their ideas to a panel of judges, including Petra Krizan, Managing Director at The Blockhouse Technology, Pascal Steichen, CEO of the LHC, Charalampia Lagou, Co-Managing Director of Girls In Tech Luxembourg, and Nasir Zubairi CEO of the LHoFT. The projects were evaluated based on their innovation, implementation, and presentation.

After much deliberation, the jury announced the top three winners: Pescathorian, SafeSignify, and PassPouch. The Cyber + FinTech Hackathon demonstrated the immense potential of the young students in addressing real-world challenges.

The event was sponsored by Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation Financière and supported by the LHoFT and the Luxembourg House of Cybersecurity.

The LTS is an extracurricular educational program aimed at 12-19-year-old students who are passionate about the digital realm and eager to learn and apply technology in a real creative and business context.

The first pilot started in September 2016, and LTS is now in more than 10 schools in Luxembourg, coaching more than 200 students. Students follow a business, technology, and creativity program divided into three blocks. They receive personalized coaching and work on their own projects, which they showcase at the end of each block. For more information, visit techschool.lu.
