A Japanese research organisation shared its prototypes for testing at VivaTech. But what are they for?

A hobby horse? Massage stool? A suitcase you can ride? The prototypes doing wheelies around the stand of mercari R4D’s Poimo Project were getting plenty of attention at Vivatech 2022, though users may be forgiven for wondering what is it?

The inflatable trike, armchair and a third one resembling a softball glove are designed as portable inflatable electric mobility devices.

Destined to help a person move around the home–they provide an inclusive mobility solution for people with mobility issues.

Poimo Project combines soft robotics, HCI (human-computer interaction), wireless charging, and digital fabrication.

The mobile armchairs are light enough to carry, safe and easy to usethanks to their soft inflatable body, and can be built in a variety of shapes and sizes at a low cost.
