Duro & Partners has joined the Silicon Luxembourg Founders Club. M&A and Tax lawyer Charles Duro tells us more about the company.

A few words about you.

Duro & Partners was founded in 1995 and is an established Luxembourg boutique law firm. We advise in “business law” in a broad sense: corporate, commercial, financial, tax and labour law.

I joined in 2021 after having been for about five years within the tax team of an international law firm. I changed law firms in order to join this family-owned boutique law firm, which is much closer to its clients. Indeed, rather than relying on templates, we carefully listen to our clients, to understand their position and advise accordingly.

Further to my tax law background, I serve on the boards of several companies in advisory role regarding legal and strategic input.

What are the main pillars of your company?

Our firm’s philosophy and identity are to serve the clients as a boutique law firm, to give expert and strategic advice and to provide efficient and focused service to our clients’ needs, challenges and opportunities.

Rather than aiming to assist clients in one specific deal, we prefer to build long-term relationships. Most clients of the firm have been with us for several years, if not decades. These lasting relations help us in grasping the big picture, knowing the history of a client, and consequently having a better understanding what is needed.

Why did you want to join the Founders Club?

The Founders Club members are Luxembourg entrepreneurs, having a local (and sometimes international) footprint. The decision makers are here; these are the people we have assisted in the past and want to assist in the future.

The Founders Club, under Charles-Louis direction, is regrouping like-minded people facing diverse challenges and is a great platform to discuss many interesting topics. It’s a great platform to meet new people and understand current industry trends, obstacles and solutions.

What are the predictions of your industry?

The law industry will undergo deep changes. Rather than relying on the (mass) production of documents, which can be achieved more efficiently with LegalTechs, the added value will be derived more exclusively from tailor-made advice.

As such, lawyers will need to adapt their business and grow their commercial awareness, to really recognise what the clients are facing. Lawyers will need to exceed their pure knowledge of law in order to use this knowledge for spot-on solutions.
