The Institut Luxembourgeois de la Normalisation, de l’Accréditation, de la Sécurité et qualité des produits et services (ILNAS), a public administration under the authority of the Minister of the Economy, supports the continuously growing aerospace industry of Luxembourg through technical standardization.
Indeed, as the national standards body, ILNAS has been assisting stakeholders in the aerospace sector since 2013 by providing them with an overview of the normative knowledge useful for the development of their activities.
Policy on Aerospace Technical Standardization 2021-2025
In the framework of the Luxembourg Standardization Strategy 2020-2030, aerospace is identified as one key strategic sector in Luxembourg, alongside with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Construction. In this national context, ILNAS has developed the Policy on Aerospace Technical Standardization 2021-2025.
This policy aims to promote and reinforce the involvement of national actors in standardization work through three flagship projects:
- Promoting aerospace technical standardization to the market;
- Reinforcing the valorization and the involvement regarding aerospace technical standardization;
- Supporting and strengthening Education about Standardization and the related research activities.
ILNAS is supported by the standardization department of the Agence pour la Normalisation et l’Economie de la Connaissance (ANEC GIE) for the execution of these missions.
Aerospace Sector Standards Analysis
First result of the implementation of the national policy, ILNAS updated its Aerospace Sector Standards Analysis in July 2021. This document provides an overview of the space sector and the associated standardization context. It encourages the different national actors to seize the opportunities offered in Luxembourg to get actively involved in technical standardization, and thus aim at improving their competitiveness. This version of the Aerospace Standards Analysis focuses only on the space sector (excluding aeronautics), with the main purpose of supporting the national strategy for the economic development of this sector, initiated by the Government of Luxembourg.
This document highlights the European and international technical standardization committees that are of interest to national experts of the space sector. It also presents the current global context of the space sector (identifying its different components and its most flourishing business segments), and then focuses on the European and national aspects. The fundamentals of standardization are then introduced to call attention to the different standardization opportunities available to the national market as well as the main European and international standardization players. More information is available in the dedicated presentation video below:
“This standards analysis is intended to serve as a practical tool to discover the latest standardization developments in space-related technologies, with the ultimate objectives to offer national stakeholders guidance for applying these standards and for a potential future involvement in the standards development process.”
Opportunities in Luxembourg
ILNAS and ANEC GIE are at the disposal of the aerospace sector stakeholders of Luxembourg in their standardization developments, notably by providing them with all the necessary information they may require.
Interested stakeholders can access the entire content of international, European and national standards at no cost, in read-only mode, at one of the nine reading stations located across Luxembourg.
ILNAS also allows national organizations to register, free of charge, experts willing to participate actively in standards development within technical standardization committees. To do so, simply fill out a registration form and email it to [email protected].
