Business IT and telephony company, Mixvoip, has just launched a new service that enables you to maintain your own local area network (LAN) with expert support from Mixvoip.

Mixvoip have seen great success since they launched in 2008, both in Luxembourg and Belgium. Having started out as a two-person startup, they’ve grown to over 100 employees servicing 4000 customers monthly. Initially focusing on providing Cloud PBX services (one of the first companies in Luxembourg to do so) they have now expanded their offering to internet connectivity, IP services and network infrastructure. Their latest service – Co-managed LAN – differentiates them from their competitors by handing control back to the customer.

The customer remains in control

Unlike other service providers who only offer fully-managed LAN services, Mixvoip realised that IT managers can handle most network issues that arise themselves. Having to go through their service provider only slows things down, often turning a job that could be done in five minutes, into one that takes days. As Loïc Didelot, CEO of Mixvoip explains, “for every minor change, IT managers or IT companies have to send an email, open a ticket, wait 24 hours, and if there’s a misunderstanding they have to reply…and so on.” In some cases, opening a ticket takes an IT manager more time than doing the work themselves.

Instead, with Co-managed LAN, IT managers – or their IT service company – can fix issues or make changes to the network themselves, whenever they want. They only involve Mixvoip when they need support. For example, there might be particular issues that an IT manager is not specialised in, and here Mixvoip can offer expertise. As Didelot points out, “in today’s world managing the IT of a company, and its security is a lot of work. The role of an IT manager can be like comparing different types of doctors – you can be a dentist or a neurosurgeon, they’re two completely different disciplines. And so IT managers can’t be super skilled in everything. We can complete their knowledge so that they don’t need to dive in deep.”

And it’s not always a problem of lacking know-how. Even the best IT managers get sick, go on holiday or take parental leave. Despite this, their network still needs to run continuously, so Mixvoip’s team can support the customer whenever they need it.

Centralised network management, hosted in Luxembourg

Thanks to the platform Mixvoip uses – developed by Huawei but hosted in Luxembourg in multiple Tier 4 data centres, and managed locally – customers can claim back their network. With a click of a mouse, customers can monitor the health of their network, configure access rights in a centralised way, update the firmware or simply deploy a new switch or WiFi antenna. And because the service is provided locally, the Mixvoip team are on-hand to help with your issues straight away. The team can even support you in person, if necessary.

Despite this being a brand new service, a number of local companies are already starting to use it with some success, including public sector organisation, Helperknapp Commune; construction company, CDCL; and IT service provider, Convergence IT.

It’s more important than ever to maintain your network and tackle potential issues quickly, before they escalate, and co-managed LAN offers that speed with support.
