The Phoenix And The Unicorn

A highlight of this year’s edition will no doubt be the opening ceremony, which gives the floor to the renowned keynote speaker Peter Hinssen, who will lead a discourse on corporate innovation – a discussion that could not be more topical for businesses in these times of rapid change.

The author, lecturer, and Board member of several 1000 Fortune companies, will deconstruct the world of business in a playful and disruptive way and talk to you about the great myths of innovation. He will address the “unicorns”, those start-ups valued at more than a billion dollars that many aspire to become, and the “phoenixes”, those traditional, well-established companies, which are less subject to media hype, but which nevertheless manage to reinvent themselves from crisis to crisis. They are the Walmarts, the Volvos, the Disneys, the Apples, the Microsofts, the Ping Ans, the Assa Abloys and AT&Ts of this world, which have formed the basis of true leadership over the years.

“We need to be thinking about how we are going to train the next generation of leaders.”

Peter Hinssen

According to Hinssen: “Instilling a culture that encourages people to do things they have never done before is absolutely essential if you want to reinvent yourself.” He further stresses the importance of leadership in this process by stating: “We need to be thinking about how we are going to train the next generation of leaders. We need new skills, new attitudes and new tools and governance systems. If your company does not have a leader trained to run a 21st century organization it is going to be very difficult for your company to reinvent itself.”

All in all, the keynote and homonymous book “The Phoenix and the Unicorn” provide ample food for thought on governance structure, and answers to questions associated with structural change. Let this opening session at Luxexpo The Box be an eye-opener for you and show you how to make innovation a reality in your organization!
