Leo Weis, a 24-year-old business administration graduate recently launched his curated vintage store Fomeaux in Luxembourg City. He tells us more about its unique curation and his ambitions for the store.

Congratulations on launching your store Fomeaux. What can you tell us about its inception?

I studied business administration in Vienna, focusing on hospitality. After completing my studies, I pondered my next move. Having always been drawn to vintage clothing, I noticed a gap in Luxembourg’s market. Despite occasional vintage stores, none catered specifically to a younger audience. Fueled by my passion and inspired by experiences in other European cities, I decided to launch Fomeaux Vintage.

How would you describe your target demographic?

My target demographic is quite diverse, ranging from high school students to young professionals like myself who appreciate unique vintage clothing. While students make up a big part of my customer base, I also cater to older individuals who are drawn to the stylish and sustainable fashion options I offer in my store. Our main audience ranges from around 14 to late 20s, with a focus on students and young adults. However, we’ve had customers of all ages appreciating our curated selection.

Social media plays a significant role, particularly platforms like TikTok, where I’m constantly exposed to vintage-related content. Additionally, customer feedback and interactions inform our inventory choices.  Vintage clothing embodies uniqueness. It’s about expressing individuality and wearing pieces that stand out. At Fomeaux, we aim to provide a space where customers can find one-of-a-kind items that reflect their personal style.

“Vintage clothing inherently promotes sustainability by giving pre-loved garments a second life.”

What has the response been from customers, both local and European?

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Customers appreciate having a dedicated vintage store in the city, and we’ve seen a steady stream of returning clients. It’s rewarding to see people of all ages finding something they love at Fomeaux.

Can you explain your curational process?

We source our inventory through flea markets, online platforms, and partnerships with wholesalers. Each item is handpicked to maintain our store’s aesthetic and ensure quality. Unlike bulk purchases, our curated approach ensures uniqueness and attention to detail. Fomeaux focuses mainly on sports, street and designerwear from the ’90s and early ’00s.

How does Fomeaux contribute to sustainability in fashion?

Vintage clothing inherently promotes sustainability by giving pre-loved garments a second life. Our curated selection ensures quality and longevity and reduces the demand for fast fashion. We host late-night shopping events, featuring drinks from Satori Brewery, and a live DJ. It’s part of our effort to foster a sense of community and offer more than just retail experiences, and events can be found on our Instagram.
