Technology is at its best when it benefits both businesses and consumers. Compellio and Ampelooeniki’s most recent collaboration uses blockchain technology to do just that.

Ensuring the quality of wine products is essential for the enjoyment and protection of the consumer. And although consumers have always relied on wine certifications to judge their quality, these can also be confusing or misleading.

Fortunately for the wine enthusiast, blockchain technology has penetrated the industry and come to the rescue. By combining Compellio’s blockchain expertise and Ampelooeniki’s established experience in the wine industry, their collaboration promises to bring a new level of transparency to this sector.

“We are delighted for our strategic partnership with Ampelooeniki that aims at the broader digital transformation of the wine industry using modern technologies such as blockchain, big data, and Internet-of-Things (IoT). With this new service, we aspire to provide innovative solutions to accelerate the digital transition of businesses, strengthen the certification and traceability mechanisms, as well as safeguard consumer protection,” says Denis Avrilionis, Founder of Compellio.

In line with new European policies aimed at the digital modernisation of the primary sector, the technological abilities offered by Compellio’s digital tools provide unalterable “digital seal” of authenticity and ownership of any type of data and file, which remain unchanged and controllable in a fully transparent manner and compatible with the General Data Protection Regulation.

“The digital world is now a reality and we, as a company, must respond to this challenge by assisting wineries […] and in future by participating in the creation of e-Label and e-Certificate services.”

Authenticity Guaranteed

By getting access to their new digital platform, consumers can directly monitor viticultural issues and laboratory results as well as analyse prices and availability of products. At the heart of it all lies blockchain technology which authenticates the locating of historical data (financial data, analyses, advisory instructions, orders, etc.) faster and more easily.

Electronic certificates and labelling will also make it easier for traders and consumers to obtain information about the wines directly on their smartphones.

“The digital world is now a reality and we, as a company, must respond to this challenge by assisting wineries, in a first stage by facilitating access and traceability of our services, whether it is export analysis, tank monitoring, or ordering oenological products, and in future by participating in the creation of e-Label and e-Certificate services,” says Anna Gkoulioti, Manager of Ampelooeniki.

As the International Organisation of Vine and Wine recognised, the digital transformation is the future and the wine world has the potential to join it and reap the fruits of enhanced productivity, increased sustainable development and more transparency.
