In a ranking that emphasized the success rate of picking future unicorns, the Luxembourg early-stage VC ranked 8th in the EMEA region and first in the Benelux region.

It should not come as a surprise that Mangrove Capital Partners, a VC that was an early backer of the likes of Skype, Wix, and WalkMe, ranked among the top 10 VCs in Europe in Dealroom’s latest VC Investor Ranking

Dealroom’s ranking, which Yannick Oswald, partner at Mangrove Capital Partners, calls “one of the few rankings we take seriously” in his blog post on the subject, based most of its ranking on how successful VCs are at picking startups that go on “to big outcomes” – being valued at $250m-$1bn.

While this ranking bias may benefit venture capital firms that adopt an ‘all-in’ approach, such as Mangrove Capital Partners, over those employing a ‘pray and spray’ strategy, it doesn’t diminish the performance of the Luxembourg-based venture capital firm.

In the ranking, Mangrove Capital Partners did not just do exceptionally well in Europe where it ranked 8th in the EMEA Seed ranking and 1st in the Benelux region. Indeed, even in the global ranking the Luxembourg VC did well, ranking 52nd out of 500 VCs in the Global Seed ranking.

“It is great to see the Luxembourgish country flag that high up in the ranking [...]. To see ‘us’ appear at the top makes me proud. Yes, we are very tiny, but we like to show the big guys who we are.”

Other notable Luxembourg VCs in the Global Seed ranking included SGH Capital (#145), Promus Ventures (#233), and Middlegame Ventures (#366).
